All organizations need to be ready for Windows 7 end of support. It is coming much sooner than expected. January 14, 2020 Microsoft will not issue anymore patches to protect you from cyber security threats and hackers.

Despite the popularity of Windows 7, organizations need to plan and budget for upgrades or replacements of their current IT infrastructure. Upgrading to Windows 10 can be costly and time-consuming compared to new replacement of the workstations and laptops.

Microsoft has scheduled Windows 7 to stop getting support as of January 14, 2020. If users are still on Windows 8.1, you have until January 10, 2023 for the end of extended support.

Windows 7 has reached its predetermined support timeline and life cycle. The conventional mainstream support for Microsoft stopped developing Windows 7 updates on January 13, 2015 resulting in them no longer providing bug fixes and security updates for the operating system, which could eventually lead to a significant number of users more susceptible to malware attacks.

Nothing is stopping organizations from using Windows 7 after its End of Life, but it does make your computer vulnerable to cyber-attacks. Back when Windows XP came to an end, many organizations that stayed on the operating system long after it’s expiry suffered serious cyber-attacks including WannaCry ransomware.

When Windows 7 comes to an end, Microsoft will not take responsibility for loss of data due to security breaches on the software. Technology is plagued by new malware daily, so it is extremely important to understand that using Windows 7 can make you vulnerable. With no more regular patches and security updates, hackers will have an open door to your network and you risk losing data and having to deal with a cyber breach.

Change is not always accepted but completely normal when it comes to technology. If you and/or your business are still running Windows 7, you still have one year left to shift to the latest operating system. Windows 10 will bring many benefits by allowing your organization to have the latest Microsoft products installed and security services.
